The roots of Southside Baptist Church can be traced back to 1918, when a small group of believers gathered in a storefront on Jacksonville’s Southside. Led by Pastor J.E. Carothers, they established the Southside Mission.

1941: Building the Foundation

As the congregation grew, they constructed their first permanent sanctuary on Atlantic Boulevard. With the arrival of Pastor W.L. Howarth in 1941, the church’s mission expanded, and the name was changed to Southside Baptist Church.

Post-War Growth and Expansion

Following World War II, Southside Baptist Church experienced a period of rapid growth. Under the leadership of Pastor L.M. Rigdon, the sanctuary was enlarged, and a Sunday School building was added.
